Focus on the Resisters! We hear about those who fought back, through organizing, protesting, court battles and more. We speak with authors Tamiko Nimura and Frank Abe about their graphic novel We Hereby Refuse: Japanese American Resistance to Wartime Incarceration, which weaves together the stories of multiple ancestor rebels.

Powerleegirls Hosts Miko Lee and Jalena Keane-Lee talk about Reparations and Solidarity with author John Tateishi and California Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi.

John Tateishi shares about his book Redress, The Inside story of the Successful Campaign for Japanese American Reparations. We get insight into the work it took to achieve American’s groundbreaking apology and restitution. Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi speaks about successfully leading a bill for California to apologize for the role it played in carrying out policies that discriminated against Japanese Americans before and during World War II.

Crystal City: Then and Now. Crystal City is historically considered one of the harshest detention centers for Japanese American internees during World War II. Last year many former detainees, descendants and activists journeyed to Crystal City, Texas in a pilgrimage of remembrance. They also went to protest at a nearby active detention center for migrant children. Tonight we hear from two members who went on the Pilgrimage – Satsuki Ina and Sita Bhaumik.

Women in the Camps. We hear a first hand experience from Flora Ninomiya about her time as an incarcerated 6 year old at Topaz and we talk with Densho historian Nina Wallace about women’s daily lives in the camps, as well as the dangers of sexual stalking, harassment and assault. Content warning, this show features discussions about violence against women.

Day of Remembrance. We hear from Tsuru for Solidarity Co-Chair Mike Ishii about events happening in New York. Lisa Doi, Director of the Japanese American Citizen’s League updates us with what is going on in Chicago. Chair Jim Matsuoka tells us about Bay Area Day of Remembrance events.
